{"id":112873,"date":"2026-03-27T13:43:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T02:43:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=112873"},"modified":"2026-03-27T13:43:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T02:43:10","slug":"kangaroos-focus-on-building-and-growth-not-instant-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/seniors\/kangaroos-focus-on-building-and-growth-not-instant-results\/","title":{"rendered":"Kangaroos focus on building and growth, not instant results"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Broadford A-grade coach Jaimie Hooper says the club\u2019s netballers are rapt to be back where they belong, on Saturdays, side-by side with the footballers, competing in a strong country league.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause we know one thing \u2026 you\u2019ve got to play the best to be the best,\u201d said Hooper, who will lead the Kangaroos into BFNL battle for the first time this Saturday against South Bendigo in a standalone clash at Harley Hammond Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>It will be a historic occasion for the club, with the footballers returning to the field for the first time since going into recess two years ago, after three seasons in the Outer East Football Netball League.<\/p>\n<p>The netballers remained active, continuing to ply their trade in the Northern Football Netball League in readiness for their leap into the BFNL.<\/p>\n<p>Hooper acknowledged it was a big step up for the club, but a challenge they were keen not to shy away from and one they were ultimately ready for.<\/p>\n<p>For the Kangaroos, early progress will not be measured on the scoreboard or by wins and losses, with the focus very much on the long term.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis won\u2019t be about instant results. This is about building, growing, showing up,\u201d Hooper said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are a proud, resilient netball community, a club and a town that stands strong together.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we will continue to prove why Broadford Football Netball Club belongs in a competition like Bendigo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a challenge\u2026 but one we\u2019re ready for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know the strength of this league. We know the quality of clubs and players.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd what an opportunity, what an inspiration to compete alongside them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGive us three years and let\u2019s have that conversation again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Broadford has left no stone unturned in their preparation, having started pre-season training in November, well ahead of most teams.<\/p>\n<p>The Kangaroos will field teams in four of the six grades, with the exception of A-reserve and the newly created 15-and-under division<\/p>\n<p>Gisborne will also not have a team in the 15-and-under competition.<\/p>\n<p>The Kangaroos A-grade squad contains an exciting mix of youth and experience and will be captained by the experienced Ebony Heers.<\/p>\n<p>With an eye to the future, Hooper said a lot of focus would be on developing young talent for the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we may not have an A-reserve side this season and are stepping into A-grade, this is all part of our journey and one we are ready to embrace,\u201d Hooper said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt might not be our finished product just yet, but it\u2019s a powerful step forward for our club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have some exciting young talent coming through, with players like Cassie Milner and Shayla White stepping up from our junior ranks into senior netball and straight into A-grade.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2026\/03\/Broady2_24398.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"574\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A proud day for Broadford.
