{"id":112975,"date":"2026-04-04T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-03T17:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=112975"},"modified":"2026-04-01T18:36:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T07:36:11","slug":"library-toilets-out-of-order-while-compliance-works-continue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/library-toilets-out-of-order-while-compliance-works-continue\/","title":{"rendered":"Library toilets out of order while compliance works continue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>VISITORS to the Bendigo Library will be forced to use the public toilets at the Hargreaves Street multi-storey carpark or the limited facilities on level one at least until the end of July while its ground floor amenities undergo a major refurbishment.<\/p>\n<p>The works are underway to bring the restrooms into compliance with the current National Construction Code and make them safer and easier to access.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;re expected to include the demolition of the existing female\/nappy change room opposite the reception desk as well as the existing public toilet area and construction of self-contained toilet cubicles.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2026\/04\/LT2_66001.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Hargreaves Street multi-storey carpark is located directly across the road from the library\u2019s main entrance.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The nappy change room will become an all-gender family bathroom and baby feeding area and will remain in its current location, while a dedicated cleaner&#8217;s room will also be constructed.<\/p>\n<p>City of Greater Bendigo presentation and assets director Brian Westley said the library is one of the most accessed and used public buildings across the municipality and the works will provide greatly improved toilet and family facilities for the hundreds of people who visit the building each day.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During the construction phase, entry to the library will be via the Lyttleton Terrace entrance,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2026\/04\/LT4_66050.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Library&#8217;s main entrance in Hargreaves Street will remain closed while local builder Franklin Projects completes the job.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The bulk of the noisy demolition works will occur during morning hours, and library users are advised to be aware of this when planning their visit.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There may also be (other) intermittent noisy disruptions during the period.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The project has been co-funded by a $412,586 grant from the State Government&#8217;s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program and the City of Greater Bendigo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>VISITORS to the Bendigo Library will be forced to use the public toilets at the Hargreaves Street multi-storey carpark or the limited facilities on level one at least until the end of July while its ground floor amenities undergo a major refurbishment.
