AUSTRALIANS who served in more recent conflicts will be especially recognised during tomorrow’s local Anzac Day services and events, aligning with the theme of Service without end: Honouring the Anzac Spirit from Gallipoli to Iraq and Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

Dawn services will take place from 6am at the Soldiers Memorial Institute in Pall Mall and at Brassey Square on the corner of Peg Leg and Sailors Gully roads in Eaglehawk.<\/p>\n

Breakfast will be served in the Bendigo Military Museum forecourt and at the Eaglehawk Fire Station, the latter hosted by the Rotary Club of Eaglehawk and the Eaglehawk Lions Club.<\/p>\n

Mid-morning formalities in both locations will include a guest address acknowledging the service of Australians in Iraq and Afghanistan, alongside all who’ve served in the defence of Australia and its interests.<\/p>\n

A photo opportunity comprising veterans present from the second world war to those currently serving is also planned for in front of the Military Museum immediately after the mid-morning service.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon, anyone can join members of the wider veteran community to take part in the traditional game of Two-up, a custom observed by diggers for over a century, along with social activities and music at the Bendigo District RSL in Havilah Road.<\/p>\n

Bendigo District RSL president Glenn Ludeman said Anzac Day remains a solemn occasion to remember the fallen, while also acknowledging the service of contemporary veterans.<\/p>\n

“Anzac Day is about remembering those who paid the supreme sacrifice, and also honouring those who continue to serve, often far from home in complex and demanding environments,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Many of our modern veterans carry both visible and invisible wounds.<\/p>\n

“This day provides an opportunity for the community to stand alongside them and their families in respect, gratitude and support.”<\/p>\n

In 2026, the Legacy Club of Bendigo is marking its 100th year of service.<\/p>\n

Recently installed Legacy Club of Bendigo 2026-28 president Legatee Tim Evans said the organisation is honoured to participate in this year’s Anzac Day commemorations, with its legacy torch and service members to be positioned towards the front of every march.<\/p>\n

The Bendigo District RSL has also encouraged the community to support the annual Anzac Appeal, with funds raised providing welfare services to veterans and their families.<\/p>\n
