A free national cancer support program helping to improve the wellbeing and confidence of people undergoing treatment for cancer is currently looking for local volunteers.<\/p>\n

Run by the Cancer Patients Foundation, the Look Good Feel Better program has been providing free in-person workshops designed to help participants cope better with the appearance-related side-effects caused by treatment for any type of cancer in Bendigo since 1998.<\/p>\n

Volunteers must be over 18 years of age, have beauty or hairdressing knowledge, and be comfortable presenting to small groups.<\/p>\n

At each workshop, attendees are shown a skincare routine to assist with side-effects like dryness and sun sensitivity, and provided with make-up tips to help correct and conceal redness, sallowness, pigmentation and dark circles.<\/p>\n

They are also shown techniques for drawing on eyebrows and eyelashes and offered advice on headwear options, including scarf styling and wig selection.<\/p>\n

Each participant additionally receives a Confidence Kit full of skincare and make-up products to use as tools for application throughout the workshop.<\/p>\n

Local hair and make-up artist In\u00e8z Deckers has been volunteering with the program for seven years.<\/p>\n

“It’s nice to be able to do something with the skills you already have to help other people,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It’s really lovely that people going through cancer treatment get something really fun to do that’s not medical and focuses on their wellbeing.<\/p>\n

“I encourage others to volunteer because it’s such a meaningful experience to support those undergoing cancer treatment \u2013 more volunteers would help us reach even more people in Bendigo who need our help.”<\/p>\n
