FOR the second occasion in as many years the Marist Brass Band has finished runner-up in the D-grade brass band section at the 2026 Australian National Band Championships.<\/p>\n

Country Victorian rivals the City of Ballarat Municipal Brass Band finished in first place by the slim margin of eight points.<\/p>\n

The result follows consecutive wins at the Victorian State Championships in 2024 and 2025.<\/p>\n

Band president John O’Connor said the ensemble played extremely well as a team, lifting for each other across the whole weekend.<\/p>\n

“We had a fantastic time in Brisbane,” he said.<\/p>\n

“To come away with second place again is a terrific result and something the whole group should be proud of.<\/p>\n

“We were especially proud of the players experiencing their first national competition \u2013 they stepped up beautifully under pressure and contributed enormously to the overall performance.”<\/p>\n

He also sincerely thanked all of the community groups, businesses and individuals who made the trip possible, whether through donations, sponsorship or providing raffle items.<\/p>\n

“Every bit of support has been appreciated, and we’re very grateful,” he said.<\/p>\n

The band is now back in rehearsals preparing for the 100th Bendigo Competitions later this month, where it will compete in the C-grade division, as well as a number of upcoming local performances.<\/p>\n

Musicians of all ages and experience levels are invited to join the venerable group, which was established way back in 1909.<\/p>\n
