FEEDBACK regarding the City of Greater Bendigo’s proposed name for a brand new trail that will run alongside the Ironbark Gully Creek is being accepted.<\/p>\n

The suggested title for the new three-kilometre shared path, linking the Long Gully Trail and the Bendigo Creek Trail, is Yirrip Baring which means Ironbark Track in the Dja Dja Wurrung language.<\/p>\n

City active and healthy communities manager Deb Simpson said the trail is a core project of the city’s 2019 Walk, Cycle Bendigo Strategy.<\/p>\n

“The proposed three-kilometre shared trail links to the existing walking\/cycling path network, nearby homes, schools, sports and recreation areas,” she said.<\/p>\n

“It will help more people be physically active and make it easier to access quality public spaces.”<\/p>\n

Simpson pointed out that the City is a naming authority for places that it owns or manages and the naming of all roads, features and localities across the state must follow the statutory requirements of the naming rules for places in Victoria.<\/p>\n

“Registering place names with Geographic Names Victoria is essential to identify locations for managing emergencies and delivering goods and services in Victoria,” she said.<\/p>\n

The proposed Yirrip Baring place name also falls in line with the city’s Reconciliation Plan Barpangu and its commitment to supporting Aboriginal place naming and the use of Traditional Owner language in public spaces across the municipality.<\/p>\n

Residents can provide feedback via the Let’s Talk Greater Bendigo community engagement website<\/a> up until Sunday 21 June.<\/p>\n
