BENDIGO Family and Financial Services (BFFS) will receive almost $50,000 in annual emergency relief funding to help provide food, clothing and fuel vouchers to locals currently experiencing financial hardship.<\/p>\n

The support has come about through the charity’s partnership with umbrella organisation Community Information and Support Victoria.<\/p>\n

BFFS has also received $725,000 in additional backing for its in-demand financial counselling services, plus a $479,797 grant through the Financial Counselling Industry Fund.<\/p>\n

Operations manager Tracey McCurdy said the support will help BFFS meet demand and make sure no one in the community goes without food or essential items.<\/p>\n

“Emergency relief is a lifeline for people facing financial stress, and this funding helps us continue that vital work,” she said.<\/p>\n

“Emergency relief is often the circuit-breaker for people in real hardship – it provides food, material aid and a safe place to get help early, before things spiral into crisis.”<\/p>\n

Federal Bendigo MP Lisa Chesters agreed that local organisations who can provide immediate aid like BFFS supply essential support to people in the community facing severe financial pressure.<\/p>\n

“This increased funding is a testament to the work local organisations like BFFS provide our community and also the increased need for this work,” she said. “I’m so proud to be part of a government that is increasing its support for local organisations to continue the great work they do each and every day.”<\/p>\n
