THE hoary old pergola a few metres to the west of the Bendigo Senior Secondary College entrance to Rosalind Park is in the process of being replaced by a new Dja Dja Wurrung-inspired shelter.<\/p>\n
The new shelter will function as a space for performances and events, and as a community gathering point.<\/p>\n
The construction also includes landscaping works featuring native and culturally important plants.<\/p>\n
Dja Dja Wurrung group interim CEO Cassandra Lewis said Dja Dja Wurrung enterprise DJANDAK was proud to be delivering the shelter to the people of Bendigo.<\/p>\n
“Rosalind Park is where Dja Dja Wurrung People signed our recognition and settlement agreement with the Victorian government,” she said.<\/p>\n
“It’s a place of shared history, and we’re proud to deliver a space for the whole community to gather and connect.”<\/p>\n
City of Greater Bendigo presentation and assets director Brian Westley said the city is looking forward to seeing the project come to fruition in the park.<\/p>\n
“The new shelter and landscaping will provide a new space for all park users to enjoy,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Rosalind Park is such an important part of Greater Bendigo and the city welcomes the work of DJANDAK and the funding provided by the Victorian government to build this new attraction.”<\/p>\n
Works are expected to be completed by the end of July, with construction to be carried out on weekdays between 7.30am and 4.30pm.<\/p>\n
The project has been made possible through a grant from the Victorian Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
