A qualified electrician, King learned his trade in the mines while juggling a career as a professional athlete.<\/p>\n
Fast approaching 200 games, King remains a proud country boy having grown up in Singleton, 70km north west of Newcastle.<\/p>\n
While the 30-year-old stressed that decisions on pre-season venues and fixturing were the domain of management, he was all in favour of taking games to rural areas.<\/p>\n
“The more we can get out to rural areas and bring recognition to the game and growing it the better,” he said.<\/p>\n
“If that was Bendigo, I’m sure the boys would be more than happy to come out here and play.<\/p>\n
“That’s not up to me at the end of the day, but I’m always keen to get out to rural areas and continue growing the game.”<\/p>\n
Broad was quick to throw her support behind the Crushers and their ambitions of bringing a Storm pre-season game to the city.<\/p>\n
“It would be wonderful to see a Melbourne Storm pre-season game in Bendigo,” she said.<\/p>\n
“We know the club has gone to other regional towns.<\/p>\n
“A game here would be a real asset and draw a lot of attention to the region.<\/p>\n
“There is a lot of support for the Storm around here and you can see that through the Crushers as well.<\/p>\n
“Bendigo certainly has a lot to offer and sport is just part of life in regional Victoria and connects the community, which is what we want to see.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, despite a fourth straight loss to open their debut season in third grade of the premiership competition against Frankston last Saturday, Dynon said the Crushers introduction to competitive rugby league had all been positive.<\/p>\n
“We’ve definitely been competitive in a couple of the games and patches of others, so it’s building,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Rome wasn’t built in a day. We’re on the field which is the main thing and results will happen.<\/p>\n
“We know that if we build a positive culture, results will eventually happen.<\/p>\n
“We’d love to be top of the ladder overnight, but is that realistic? Probably not.<\/p>\n
“But I know that we will get there.<\/p>\n
“Our home game the other night drew a good crowd. It was nice to see so many people out there.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
