It was hard to go past recruits Tyson McKenzie and Drew Lloyd with five and four goals respectively as the Storm’s best for their scoring impact and ability to draw others into the game.<\/p>\n
Daniel Clohesy and Sam Heavyside, back for his first senior game for the season, competed well around the stoppages against quality opposition, while Tim Hosking battled strongly in the ruck in only his second game this year.<\/p>\n
James Schiscka finished with three goals, while Riley Mulquiny with two goals was arguably the most consistent Storm player across four quarters on a day when many of his teammates played their role to a tee.<\/p>\n
While it’s the last we will see of the Storm for a few weeks due to a round 11 bye and league-wide bye on 4 July, Andrews was circumspect about their position at the top of the ladder.<\/p>\n
“For now, it all starts again. Our only loss was against Gisborne in round 2 and they are next up for us in a couple of weeks,” he said.<\/p>\n
“They had a massive win against Kangaroo Flat, who looked to be improving, so there is no easy games for us.<\/p>\n
“As soon as you get ahead of yourself, you’ll lose one and be right back in the pack with the evenness of the comp this year.”<\/p>\n
Anthony Zimmerman (two goals), Samuel Langley, Hayden Geddes, and Tom Templeton battled hardest for the Bloods, whose two losses this season have both been against the Storm.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere on Saturday, Pat McKenna booted 10 goals and Dominic Sullivan five in Gisborne’s ruthless 31.17 (203) to 2.9 (21) win over Kangaroo Flat at Dower Park.<\/p>\n
Eleven Bulldogs players contributed goals as McKenna, Bradley Bernacki, Dylan Johnstone, Shane Clough and Will Elliott all starred.<\/p>\n
Angus Macpherson, Mitchell Collins and Darcy McClure battled hard for the Roos.<\/p>\n
At Wade Street, Castlemaine survived a tough challenge from Golden Square.<\/p>\n
The Magpies set up the win with a six-goal-to-one opening term, but the Bulldogs, like the previous week, found their groove after quarter-time to be within eight points at half-time.<\/p>\n
The combined efforts of Brodie Byrne, Bailey Henderson (three goals apiece), Dylan Landt, Hunter Staples, Jaise Coleman and Callum McConachy lifted the Magpies across the line in a tight second half, a win putting them within percentage of fifth spot on the ladder.<\/p>\n
Jack Stewart (two goals), Byron Ritchie, Carson James, Jordan Rosengren and the returning Adam Baird (two goals) in his first game in blue and gold in seven years led the resistance for the Bulldogs.<\/p>\n
