{"id":74609,"date":"2021-03-02T04:54:25","date_gmt":"2021-03-01T17:54:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=74609"},"modified":"2021-03-03T16:37:57","modified_gmt":"2021-03-03T05:37:57","slug":"murrays-music-keeps-rolling-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/murrays-music-keeps-rolling-on\/","title":{"rendered":"Murray\u2019s music keeps rolling on"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOUNDING member of the Warumpi Band, Neil Murray will perform at the Old Church on the Hill next month.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside guitarist Damien Neil, Murray will take to the Quarry Hill stage for two shows on Saturday, 27 and Sunday, 28 March.<\/p>\n<p>Murray said he\u2019s looking forward to the gig, only recently returning to performing since his pandemic-forced hiatus began last March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPort Fairy Folk Festival is one of the last major gigs we did in 2020 just before the shutdown,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Expecting his audience to enjoy the cosy vibe of the sofa-filled venue, Murray hopes the concerts will be relaxing, with moments of storytelling, and opportunities for questions and requests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a nice sound in there. I\u2019m going to be playing my songs. There\u2019ll be newer releases, like single the <em>Keep Rolling On<\/em>, stuff off my most recent albums, <em>Blood and Longing<\/em>, and<em> Tjungu<\/em>, which I did with Sammy Butcher.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll be doing familiar favourites, and maybe some people haven\u2019t heard of. I always do a couple of Warumpi Band songs as well. It\u2019s a bit of a roam around the landscape, picking up career landmarks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy audience is an appreciative listening audience generally, but some might get up to dance for a few of the up-tempo numbers too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Murray said music and arts spaces with a theatre feel, like the Old Church, \u201cencourage a finer, nuanced kind of performance,\u201d free of distractions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can really focus and plumb a depth of intimacy that you might not get normally, so it can transport the artists and audience, and be quite moving.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s an exquisite and unique intimacy and immediacy there, like playing in someone\u2019s loungeroom. It\u2019s cherished, very supportive, and fulfilling,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou all go under a spell.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Neil Murray will perform at 7.30pm on Saturday, 27 March, and 4.30pm on Sunday, 28 March.<\/p>\n<p>Both shows can accommodate a COVID-compliant capacity of 48 people.
