Get your skates on, now\u2019s the perfect time to learn how to roller skate.<\/p>\n
Dragon City Roller Derby is holding two events this Sunday, which recruitment coordinator Bec Fisher said are for anyone and everyone.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got an opportunity for people to come and try skating with us, we\u2019ll do an introduction as to how to stand on skates, how to propel yourself, how to move around, how to stop,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The two events will take place as part of This Girl Can week and Bendigo Pride Festival.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis Girl Can week is all about getting women active and we are a predominantly women sport, most of our skaters\u2019 ages range between 20 and mid-50s so we have quite a wide range,\u201d Ms Fisher said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBendigo Pride Festival is a community that interacts with ours a lot, there\u2019s a lot of overlap.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just great timing that we\u2019re able to host events as part of both wider programs at the same time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Dragon City will also hold an information session for its junior program, aimed at ages six and up.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt moment we have a range of kids with a range of skating abilities,\u201d Ms Fisher said. \u201cWe have multiple coaches at each session so everyone can get the right amount of attention.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Fisher said roller derby is the perfect sport for people looking for something different.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s no real ideal body type, every shape and size have their advantages. There really is something for everyone,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
