TREES set to be planted around town are free to view in the Rosalind Park Conservatory.<\/p>\n
Spotted gums, lemon scented gums, acacia, Banksia, smooth bark apple gums and dwarf apple gums are all included in the display as well as red and claret ash trees.<\/p>\n
Municipal parks and natural reserves manager Paul Gangell said the display forms part of the Greening Greater Bendigo plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs part of this plan, tree planting efforts by the City will be greatly expanded and our own nursery are producing a large portion of the trees that will be planted every year,\u201d Mr Gangell said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will ensure that the trees we plant are of the best quality, are sourced locally and are matched to Bendigo\u2019s current and future climate.\u201d<\/p>\n
The 50-year plan aims improve the health of Bendigo\u2019s urban forest and increase tree cover in urban areas to 25 per cent by 2030, 35 per cent by 2050 and 45 per cent by 2070.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe display in the Conservatory will highlight some of the species the City\u2019s gardeners have grown from seed for planting in our local streets and open space areas especially our local play spaces,\u201d Mr Gangell said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom May 2021 the City will plant more than 2300 trees through this year\u2019s tree planting program.\u201d<\/p>\n
The trees are available to view from 8.30am to 6pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
