IMMERSE yourself in the outer space and discover the universe in the palm of your hand at Discovery.<\/p>\n

The Discovery Science and Technology Centre has partnered with the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery, or OzGrav, to deliver two space exploration activities.<\/p>\n

General manager of Discovery Alissa Van Soest said the OzGrav technology allows for a fully immersive experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best way to explore the universe is to bring the universe to them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt seems so abstract when you\u2019re trying to imagine anything beyond the stars that you can see in the night sky, so they\u2019re using all these different sorts of technology to help people understand and get really excited about space.\u201d<\/p>\n

The children\u2019s event is today, while a second event for older kids and space enthusiasts will be run by Swinburne University PhD students on Friday, 16 April.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople usually associate Discovery as being for little kids,\u201d Ms Van Soest said. \u201cWe wanted to make sure that people who love space and are curious, of all ages, get an opportunity to be a part of this experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t just stop being excited and being curious once you get out of primary school.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, by running two events, a children\u2019s event and an enthusiasts\u2019 event, we\u2019re hoping that people will feel like they\u2019re able to really engage with it and have fun with it at a level that suits them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Van Soest said Discovery is thrilled to be running school holiday events.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince we\u2019ve been open, we\u2019ve been busy and we\u2019re asking people to jump online and prebook so they\u2019re not disappointed at the door if we reach capacity,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
