{"id":75089,"date":"2021-04-08T04:58:47","date_gmt":"2021-04-07T18:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=75089"},"modified":"2022-02-27T11:06:46","modified_gmt":"2022-02-27T00:06:46","slug":"bendigo-bricks-building-interest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/bendigo-bricks-building-interest\/","title":{"rendered":"Bendigo Bricks building interest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE bricks are back, with a new LEGO exhibition starting on Saturday, 10 April.<\/p>\n<p>A 25-metre train layout, great ball contraption, a brick Bendigo Post Office, and more will be on display all entirely made of LEGO.<\/p>\n<p>President of the Bendigo Lego User Group and LEGO ambassador Michael Peebles said interest has been huge and the event will be bigger than ever.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s slowly been growing and been getting more interest,\u201d he said. \u201cNow we get people from Melbourne exhibiting, South Australia, the last Bendigo Bricks in 2019 we even had two international exhibitors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s harder trying to run an event like this in a COVID world, we\u2019ve had to go to full online ticketing, and we\u2019re limited for numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had to change venues up to the Bendigo Exhibition centre just for the square meterage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBendigo LEGO User Group is a not-for-profit, a lot of the proceeds from this event go to the Bendigo Scout group to keep them functioning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former LEGO Masters Australia contestants Kale, Annie and Runa will be in attendance for the second biggest LEGO event in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>With the Bendigo LEGO User Group restarting their physical meetups, Mr Peebles said any LEGO enthusiasts are welcome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe meet once a month on the last Sunday of the month,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEffectively we just share what we\u2019re building, new sets, if somebody\u2019s working on a project it\u2019s a nice social gathering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Peebles said LEGO has grown in popularity over the last 10 years, thanks to <em>The LEGO Movie<\/em> and the reality TV show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s probably brought forward the fact that they\u2019re not just toys, they\u2019re creating some pretty phenomenal stuff,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a creative medium, it\u2019s no different to sculpting clay or painting a picture, just that the medium we use are plastic bricks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are limitations to what you can do with bricks, but for most of the adult fans of LEGO it\u2019s about pushing those boundaries to take a fairly block-ish medium and try to make something that people can recognise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tickets for Bendigo Bricks are available at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bendigobricks.com\"><strong>bendigobricks.com<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE bricks are back, with a new LEGO exhibition starting on Saturday, 10 April.
