WORKS are underway to upgrade a part of the Calder Alternative Highway at Lockwood South to allow for access to once-popular takeaway restaurant Happy Jacks Emporium.<\/p>\n
As part of a combined $140,000 investment between the State Government and new owners of the site, the works will include 200 metres of asphalt and improved drainage with a new kerb.<\/p>\n
Approximately 6000 vehicles travel along the stretch of road each day, and member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards said the works should restore the site as a tourist attraction.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s hoped this project will be the first step in returning the Happy Jacks Emporium to its former glory, encouraging more motorists to stop along the Calder Alternative Highway and support small business,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese vital works will not only improve access and road safety for motorists but will reduce ongoing maintenance needed at the site.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regional Roads Victoria said traffic will use the existing left-turn lane as the south-bound lane during construction and will not be stopped, however the speed limit will be reduced to 40kph through the site during work times.<\/p>\n
The nearby V\/Line bus stop will be temporarily relocated 50 metres north during the works, which are expected to be completed early this month.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
