A WOMEN\u2019S only mountain bike event is back and better than ever.<\/p>\n
The Bendigo Mountain Bike\u2019s women\u2019s three-hour challenge is the perfect event for experienced riders and those new to the sport.<\/p>\n
Treasurer of the club and women\u2019s social coordinator Jo Lythgo said this year\u2019s event is all about having fun.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve always marketed the event as for fun, but you can race as well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s all about introducing women into mountain biking in an environment that\u2019s low pressure, when you\u2019re at an event with guys it\u2019s a lot of pressure and that freaks a lot of people out.\u201d<\/p>\n
The three-hour challenge means participants complete as many laps of the Spring Gully trail as they can, with a more advanced course, a basic course and a just for fun course.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year there\u2019s three courses because we wanted to reach more women,\u201d Ms Lythgo said.<\/p>\n
With a relaxed approach to the event, Ms Lythgo said it encourages women who may not be the most confident riders have a go at the thrilling sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the challenge, it\u2019s the freedom, it\u2019s no cars anywhere, it\u2019s being able to achieve something like a feature on a track that perhaps you\u2019ve struggled with,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI find mountain biking makes you feel a little bit stronger but then it can scare you as well, it gives you a bit of an adrenaline rush.\u201d<\/p>\n
Participants are encouraged to dress up, and prizes and podiums are on offer thanks to the Bendigo Club and Quarry Hill Caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n
