BENDIGO\u2019S iconic Golden Dragon Museum is set for a front of house facelift following a funding announcement last Friday.<\/p>\n
A total $1 million in state funding from the Regional Infrastructure Fund will go towards the $1.2 million worth of upgrades at the popular site, which CEO Hugo Leschen said was welcome news at the aging facility that sees around 60 thousand visitors each year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very timely in our 30th year when the building is a little bit old and a little bit worn,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo get some serious funding to really bring it up to scratch and really freshen it up means that the whole front of house experience will look bright and fresh and very welcoming.\u201d<\/p>\n
Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan said the museum was an important reminder of the city\u2019s diverse history.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt continues to cement that link to Bendigo\u2019s rich gold rush history past and the important role that Chinese migration played in the development of our city,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
As well as an entire front of house refurbishment, retail, and washroom works, Mr Leschen said the site\u2019s 30-year-old commercial kitchen will also be upgraded after being shut for around two years, with the aim of eventually offering outdoor dining.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are lots of excellent Chinese restaurants in Bendigo. It\u2019s no mistake that we\u2019re the city of gastronomy, but there is room for one more,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis opportunity is very special being attached to the museum, being a part of this precinct and being in the beautiful city of Bendigo.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen it opens, we hope it will supplement what\u2019s already here but also take some new offerings and some new styles of cooking all based on the Chinese experience.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
