LETTER TO THE EDITOR<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dear Editor,<\/p>\n

The incredible news that forty-six Victorian councils (including Ballarat, Golden Plains, Bendigo and Hepburn) have signed on to VECO, the Victorian Energy Collaboration, easily represents the largest ever emissions reduction project by local government in Australia.<\/p>\n

The 240-gigawatt hours of clean power is said to be equivalent to powering 48,000 homes or removing the emissions from 90,000 cars every year.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s exactly the sort of breakthrough the climate change advocacy community has been hoping and calling for over many years.<\/p>\n

In addition to acknowledging the hard work of the councillors who have worked diligently on this project, I would like to pay tribute to everyone who has ever written a letter, attended a meeting or marched in a rally calling for action on climate change.<\/p>\n

We are fast approaching a threshold where all tiers of government and business will not only recognise but join in urging the big shift that must take place in our energy systems for this tiny planet to support our burgeoning population and growing needs.<\/p>\n
