WHITE Hills Amcal Pharmacy served up more than prescriptions recently as their Biggest Morning Tea event raised money for Cancer Council.<\/p>\n
Pharmacy manager Sanjay Jhaveri said his wife Mita has been organising an event for years, however this year was the best response yet, raising a combined $1500 in store and at the couple\u2019s home.<\/p>\n
\u201cMita\u2019s been doing it for quite a few years, it\u2019s a passion she\u2019s got for raising money for cancer, trying to help fight cancer,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe last two or three years we\u2019ve been doing it at the pharmacy as well as at home to try raise a bit more money.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Jhaveri said this year\u2019s morning tea blew away all expectations, more than tripling 2019\u2019s fundraiser\u2019s amount.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll the staff contributed to the event, all brought slices and different kind of food. We had people come in with a gold coin donation, have a slice or a cup of tea and then walk out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said the community response, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, has been tremendous.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s more this year than previous years because I think people have more empathy for people that are suffering more. People were donating $50 just like that, without even staying for tea,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a feel-good feeling in the store a bit like it is at Christmas time, all the staff are helping out serving the tea and coffees, serving the customers their prescriptions as well, it was a fun time for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
