COMMUNITY organisations at the heart of the region\u2019s recovery from COVID-19 will share new VicHealth funding.<\/p>\n
Almost 300 groups across Victoria have been granted money, with a total of $3 million put towards supporting communities to reconnect.<\/p>\n
Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan said the funding is for local groups that need it most.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis much-needed funding from VicHealth aims to ensure local organisations can continue supporting our community to get their health and wellbeing back on track in 2021 and beyond,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cGrassroots organisations in Bendigo East understand our community\u2019s needs and can deliver locally-led solutions to empower residents to improve their health and wellbeing in the wake of the pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n
Among the groups are Interchange Loddon Mallee Region, who will use $48,150 for a new person-centred physical activity program for 60 young people living with a disability in Bendigo, supported by their 29 regional neighbourhood houses.<\/p>\n
Bike Bendigo have been granted $14,970 for a new ride-to-school program, including bike maintenance skills, road safety and route planning, for children starting high school.<\/p>\n
Bendigo Community Toy Library will use $4750 to purchase ride-on equipment available for loan for children under 12 years including skateboards, scooters and bikes.<\/p>\n
Loddon Campaspe Multicultural Services have been granted $2818 for a 10-week yoga program, specially designed for women experiencing hardship in Bendigo.<\/p>\n
VicHealth CEO Dr Sandro Demaio said the grants are designed to assist community organisations that help Victorians hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis funding is about empowering fantastic grassroots organisations so Victorians facing disadvantage can enjoy the physical and mental health benefits of being active, eating healthy food and being socially connected,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
