{"id":76460,"date":"2021-06-28T04:57:32","date_gmt":"2021-06-27T18:57:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=76460"},"modified":"2022-02-27T11:01:05","modified_gmt":"2022-02-27T00:01:05","slug":"synchronicity-ready-for-edgy-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/synchronicity-ready-for-edgy-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Synchronicity ready for \u201cedgy\u201d show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BENDIGO audiences will be treated to a night of thrilling theatre at Synchronicity Performing Arts\u2019 upcoming production of <em>Speaking in Tongues<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Written by Australian playwright Andrew Bovell whose credits include co-writing the 1992 film <em>Strictly Ballroom<\/em>, director Wendy Collishaw said<em> Speaking in Tongues<\/em> slowly reveals a murder mystery through the stories of cheating couples.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur crew really pushed to do something a little bit different and a bit more edgy and this is it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the writing style, it\u2019s the drama, it\u2019s the approach to how Bovell writes this and presents the drama that is so unique and so edgy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a murder that happens in the play and it\u2019s a gradual reveal as everybody tells the story from their angle and the audience is only getting little snippets of information revealed to them with each new scene.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Collishaw said <em>Speaking in Tongues<\/em> differs from what audiences have seen from the company in the past and was a \u201ccast motivated\u201d production even through online rehearsals in lockdown, a venue change and sick crew members.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was actors coming to me going \u2018we want to do this play, if we find a director, if we find other people can we put it on?\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of the actors in our company have been with us for quite a while and were looking for a challenge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur actors really got to a point where they wanted something more to sink their teeth into.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each actor plays multiple characters in the show, which Collishaw said will leave audiences thinking long after the curtains close.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re going to go away from this and be really challenged about your concept of what theatre is, your concept of what relationships are,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Speaking in Tongues<\/em> plays at MUIOOF Hall, with evening performances at 8pm on 2 to 3 and 8 to 10 July, and matinees at 2pm on 3 and 10 July.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are available at <strong>bit.ly\/3zKc1jp <\/strong>or at the Capital Theatre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BENDIGO audiences will be treated to a night of thrilling theatre at Synchronicity Performing Arts\u2019 upcoming production of Speaking in Tongues.
