{"id":76565,"date":"2021-07-05T04:57:48","date_gmt":"2021-07-04T18:57:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=76565"},"modified":"2022-02-27T11:06:03","modified_gmt":"2022-02-27T00:06:03","slug":"drawing-on-citys-heritage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/drawing-on-citys-heritage\/","title":{"rendered":"Drawing on city\u2019s heritage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOR the past eight years, Bree Galvin has made Bendigo her muse.<\/p>\n<p>The graphic designer draws on the historical architecture and heritage sites of the city, printing her illustrations on anything from tea towels to posters.<\/p>\n<p>Galvin launched her company <em>This Is Me, Bree <\/em>during COVID-19 lockdowns, when she realised all the inspiration she needed was right at her doorstep.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was just driving home and just looking at how beautiful and wonderful all our architecture is and it just hit me like a bolt of lightning, \u2018we\u2019ve got so much here, why am I concerned with anywhere else?\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got so many iconic things right here in Bendigo, it was like the idea was hatched from that. Photo: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThat was really good in the fact that it helped with isolation\u2026 it was a really good way of connecting to other people and seeing what other people were doing, documenting lockdown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of her latest pieces, an illustration of Bull Street, draws on the style and fashion of yesteryear with a personal retro touch Galvin has developed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love the drawing, but I really love delving into research on the fashion of the day, so that\u2019s Pinterest and Instagram and general research on the internet,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor that piece I used Christian Dior pieces, and garments worn by Audrey Hepburn.
