PEOPLE are invited to make their contributions to a municipal project aimed at finding ways to reduce the potential impacts of flooding in the central Bendigo region.<\/p>\n
The Finding\u00a0Flood\u00a0Solutions study and community discussions will guide the City of Greater Bendigo\u2019s decision making on infrastructure development to mitigate flood damage.<\/p>\n
Manager of engineering at the City, Ian McLauchlan, said flooding from waterways in the area is expected to worsen over time.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know\u00a0flooding from Bendigo Creek and other waterways in this area isn\u2019t a topic people generally think about, but significant\u00a0floods have occurred in the past in 2010, 2011 and 2016 that have damaged property, roads and community assets,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe frequency and extent of\u00a0flooding from creeks following major rainfall is predicted to increase in the future so this is a topic we do need to be thinking about, particularly for people who have properties in the vicinity of these waterways.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first step is to gather local feedback, information and ideas and all residents, property owners, businesses and organisations are invited to have their say and participate in discussions to help shape future investment outcomes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know there\u2019s a wealth of wisdom, knowledge and skill in the community and we are keen to hear interesting stories and experiences from past\u00a0floods from everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
Community members can get involved by completing an online survey, registering for face-to-face or online discussion sessions, or by attending a pop-up session.<\/p>\n
