CONFIDENCE is growing at Essendon that Jake Stringer will put pen to paper on a contract extension.<\/p>\n
Bombers general manager of football Josh Mahoney has revealed that contract talks with Stringer are \u201ca long way down the track\u201d.<\/p>\n
Stringer and his management are reportedly wanting a four-year deal with the 27-year-old coming out of contract at season\u2019s end.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a long way down the track. It\u2019s not too far away,\u201d Mahoney told SEN Breakfast.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like I\u2019ve said that for a little while now, but it\u2019s actually true. It\u2019s not that far away.\u201d<\/p>\n
Essendon great Tim Watson asked, \u201cSo you are completely confident that he will re-sign at Essendon then?\u201d<\/p>\n
Mahoney replied, \u201cYes.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully in the next little while we\u2019ll get an announcement.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s going very well. There\u2019s been a lot of speculation, everyone\u2019s got their thoughts on this contract.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we look at Jake\u2019s last five to six weeks, he\u2019s played probably the most consistent footy he\u2019s played. He\u2019s playing a really important role for us.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been pleased with what he\u2019s been able to do, and the contract is not far away.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stringer kicked four goals in Essendon\u2019s 18 point over North Melbourne on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The Bombers recently locked away star midfielders Zach Merrett and Darcy Parish to new contracts.<\/p>\n
