A BRIGHT piece of artwork will soon light up the children\u2019s ward at Bendigo Hospital.<\/p>\n
Titled Birds of a Feather<\/em>, the work was created by Wadi Wadi artist Robyn Davis to decorate the new space, and promote inclusivity.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s about journeying through life,\u201d Davis said. \u201cAre you one of the flock or do you stand on your own and have your own thoughts and actions and stand against the crowd?\u201d<\/p>\n The painting features two cockatoos painted the same and one different, which Davis said represents \u201cbeing true to yourself\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cI think it\u2019s a good message for the children\u2019s ward,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n The painting took a week to put together and was done using a variety of ink sprays, water and paints.<\/p>\n Paediatric nurse unit manager Deb Forbes said it\u2019s \u201cimperative\u201d to make the ward as friendly and engaging for adolescent patients as possible, and Davis\u2019 artwork was the perfect choice to decorate the area.<\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re trying to make a space that\u2019s safe for children, so they don\u2019t feel vulnerable so we\u2019re trying to create that environment of friendliness, safety and inclusiveness,\u201d she said. \u201cIt does the job.\u201d<\/p>\n Bendigo Health\u2019s manager of Aboriginal services Dave Kerr said the piece will help First Nations children feel connected and safe when at the hospital.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s such a beautiful piece that all kids will be able to take something from it, it\u2019s fun, it\u2019s really engaging, it catches your eye,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s important from my perspective, for Aboriginal kids to feel that connection when they come in and this is one way of doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A BRIGHT piece of artwork will soon light up the children\u2019s ward at Bendigo Hospital.
