We\u2019re happy with every little bit and rest assured it will go to the community in Bendigo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In years past, the organisation\u2019s volunteers, known as Legatees, along with reserves and young cadets would sell badges, teddy bears and pens to members of the public at supermarkets and shopping centres.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77812\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77812\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-77812\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Bendigo-Legacy-8-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-77812\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">As part of the week the organisation is selling bears that mark different periods in Australia\u2019s military history.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Under current COVID-19 restrictions, items will only be available for purchase online or by phone and a set of cards unique to Bendigo and designed by local artist Sarah Wallace-Smith are also on offer.<\/p>\n<p>The money raised through the sales will go towards funding Bendigo Legacy\u2019s work with widows and family members of veterans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe provide support to the families of veterans and it\u2019s support as to what they need,\u201d Ms Egan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt might be monetary, it might be just having a cuppa and a chat over the magazine that we put out every fortnight. With some of our beneficiaries it\u2019s regular support, with some it\u2019s one-off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bendigo Legacy\u2019s beneficiaries total 347 people &#8211; helped by 40 active Legatees, and secretary Judi Perry said that support can also extend to children for their education or to send them to Legacy camps around the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would be able to assist with them getting to these camps so that the children are with other children that are just like them, either their father is really unwell or not there, so we provide that sort of support as well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>To purchase a Legacy Week item, visit <strong>legacy.com.au\/legacy-week <\/strong>or call Bendigo Legacy on 5443 6332.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LEGACY\u2019S annual fundraising campaign will begin this weekend, reminding the families of veterans they\u2019re not alone in an increasingly isolated world.
