{"id":77942,"date":"2021-09-05T04:56:44","date_gmt":"2021-09-04T18:56:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=77942"},"modified":"2021-08-31T15:27:35","modified_gmt":"2021-08-31T05:27:35","slug":"the-wimmera-ten-bag-press","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/the-wimmera-ten-bag-press\/","title":{"rendered":"Wimmera the star of Press\u2019 new book"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AFTER the 2020 release of <em>The Mallee<\/em>, Ballarat publisher Ten Bag Press have produced another book exploring the sights, tales, and personalities of the state\u2019s west.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Wimmera &#8211; A journey through western Victoria <\/em>features photographs of Apsley, Rupanyup, Watchem, Minyip, Jeparit and beyond, captured by creatives including Melanie Faith Dove, Erin Jonasson, Jaime Murcia, Noel Butcher, David Callow and Andrew Chapman.<\/p>\n<p>The award-winning photojournalists followed a railway map dating to the 1950s, capturing vibrant locations and communities along the train lines, some deserted places, and unusual landmarks. Some lines are still in operation, while others have been left to deteriorate for decades.<\/p>\n<p>Author Adam McNicol\u2019s words accompany the images. He grew up in the small community of Manangatang, which was the namesake of his Press\u2019 first book in 2011.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_77944\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-77944\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-77944\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/The-Mallee-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-77944\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Adam McNicol started Ten Bag Press in 2010. Photo: FILE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe Wimmera is a land full of contrasts, from dryland scrub in the north to stately trees and rolling green hills in the south, and our journey takes you to every corner of this most interesting region,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere has never been a better time to celebrate what\u2019s in our backyard, and the Wimmera is such an interesting place. On our travels, we learned about the region\u2019s Indigenous history, including the celebrated cricket team that toured England in the 1860s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe met fifth, and sixth, generation farmers and came across so many people who are proud to call the Wimmera home.
