THE City of Greater Bendigo is asking for opinions on plans to upgrade the Strathdale Community Centre on Crook Street.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s hoped the revamped community hub will be a more flexible, multi-purpose building with activity and co-working spaces, and the possibility of a caf\u00e9 and kitchen facilities.<\/p>\n
Municipal partnerships manager Andie West said the designs will be a significant upgrade to the centre and prepare it for future growth in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe centre is a highly used and valued community facility that is used by over 30 community organisations,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The original centre was built in the 1970s by the Shire of Strathfieldsaye and upgraded in 1985, with ownership passing to the City of Greater Bendigo in 1994.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project was identified as a community priority through a broad consultation process, which indicated the current building was tired and no longer meeting community needs or expectations due to outdated design and failing infrastructure,\u201d Ms West said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy upgrading the existing building, the City will be responding to growing community need for flexible, multi-purpose spaces that can be used for a range of community activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cCommunity hubs are important for community wellbeing because they enable people to connect with one another and service providers and participate in events and other activities. They are also a cost-effective way of providing community activity spaces and services.\u201d<\/p>\n
The floorplan is available for viewing through the City\u2019s Let\u2019s Talk web page and people are asked to provide feedback on the different uses of the space, as well as any improvements or concerns.<\/p>\n
Currently the project is not funded, but may come under future City budgets and government grants.<\/p>\n
