A TWO-million-dollar advanced manufacturing hub will be established at La Trobe University.<\/p>\n
As part of the Federal Government\u2019s Strategic University Reform Fund, the hub has been developed by the university, Bendigo Manufacturing Group and the City of Greater Bendigo as a \u201cone-stop-shop for regional industries\u201d to seek advice and support to grow their businesses.<\/p>\n
Minister for education and youth Alan Tudge said the hub would involve collaborations between the university and up to 10 local companies.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese partnerships will encourage businesses in Bendigo to innovate, make better use of technology and explore opportunities to expand globally,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to see big ideas, breakthrough products and new business models that will grow our economy and improve our society, all coming out of Bendigo.<\/p>\n
\u201cCollaboration between universities and industry provides clear benefits for students, universities and businesses, which is why we have made these connections a key focus for our Government.\u201d<\/p>\n
La Trobe vice-chancellor Professor John Dewar said the hub has been designed with the aim of helping regional manufacturing companies reach global markets.<\/p>\n
\u201cBendigo already has a thriving manufacturing sector, which contributes significantly to the city\u2019s economy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis hub will capitalise on those strengths, connecting local companies with the university\u2019s academic expertise, network of major industry partners, like Cisco and Optus, and world-class research facilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cRegional businesses can also access global supply chains and markets, and product-improving technologies, such as the internet of things. This initiative will help them discover multi-disciplinary solutions to the challenges they face.\u201d<\/p>\n
There are plans to extend the hub to La Trobe\u2019s campuses in Shepparton, Mildura and Albury-Wodonga in a year\u2019s time, if the Bendigo project is deemed a success.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
