{"id":78761,"date":"2021-10-09T04:58:48","date_gmt":"2021-10-08T17:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=78761"},"modified":"2022-02-27T11:34:48","modified_gmt":"2022-02-27T00:34:48","slug":"lions-pride","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/lions-pride\/","title":{"rendered":"Lions\u2019 pride"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Stadium rock on the agenda for local maestros\u2019 latest album<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WHAT do you get when you combine five accomplished Bendigo musicians at the top of their games, heart-on-sleeve lyrics equally influenced by their local surrounds, clever song structures, and a band as in sync as you\u2019ll ever hear?<\/p>\n<p>Well, you get Four Lions\u2019 latest album <em>Wide Awake<\/em> &#8211; a slick, multi-layered collection of music that stands up against any guitar band across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a twelve-track journey through what singer, songwriter, guitarist and founder Shann Lions describes as full of \u201cthe best songs I\u2019ve ever written\u201d and \u201ca year in my life in song\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t need to go into it further though, (as) art needs some level of the listener&#8217;s own interpretation!\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Wide Awake<\/em> signals somewhat of a departure from the band\u2019s four previous albums, which could be variously described as a combo of folk rock, Americana and alt. country.<\/p>\n<p>This one, unashamedly, is designed for the main stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI came up with the idea of creating a stadium rock album during the band&#8217;s 2019 Hard Days national tour,\u201d Lions said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was driving over to play in the front bar of one of the oldest pubs in Australia in Penola. I was remembering watching The Killers on the MCG with Jack Riewoldt in the 2018 AFL grand final, thinking that it would be a dream to be performing there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know our band could be something pretty special because it already is to me &#8211; we just need other people to believe and connect with us musically. Stadium rock songs clearly have the runs on the board, so why not attempt to write some?\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_78762\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-78762\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-78762\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/fl_album-cover-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-78762\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The bands new album is out on 14 October.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>If you\u2019ve ever seen Four Lions live or follow their socials, you\u2019ll be aware of the bond between Lions and lead guitarist\/chief protagonist and renowned guitar obsessive Keith McQueen, as well as his genuine admiration for the rest of the group.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps, their cohesive nature, and the way they come together as way more than a sum of their parts, is a result of this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeith will, and always has been there. I started the band with him, so without him&#8230; there is no band,\u201d Lions said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYep, I might be the songwriter and voice, but he is just as important as I am &#8211; you can have the chips, but they are better with the right gravy!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKeith adds colours to songs where they are needed, knows when to compliment a melody, to under or overplay in a part of the song.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s such a fan of music, like I am &#8211; that\u2019s why we have just clicked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaking nothing away from the other guys in the band, because they all played out of their skins on this record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say I have a bit of that unspoken magic with drummer Gav too, but that\u2019s because we have played together for so long. I lock in with Gav like no one else when I play guitar, so I\u2019m always planning these songs from the ground up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStephen on keyboard and Brad on bass&#8230; I just love listening to and watching them play. It\u2019s an absolute pleasure to share in this journey alongside them too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wide Awake will be released on 14 October through MGM Distribution and the band\u2019s own label &#8211; Verse Chorus Verse &#8211; in digital, CD and deluxe vinyl format.
