THE redevelopment of Ewing Park will begin at the start of November.<\/p>\n
The works, in partnership with the State Government, will see the reserve transformed into a $3.37 million recreation precinct, $480,000 of which was contributed by the City of Greater Bendigo.<\/p>\n
The stage two development will see a large skate park, a learn to ride park, outdoor fitness equipment, a cycling trail hub and more installed.<\/p>\n
City health and wellbeing director Vicky Mason said the outcome of the works will see an increase in opportunities for the community to get active.<\/p>\n
\u201cImportantly, it will cater for children, young people, families and people of all ages, abilities and cultures,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis project is important because it will deliver a multi-purpose community and sporting precinct that will support recreation and participation for people of all ages and abilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will also build on the recent $1.6 million first stage improvements completed in 2020 which included construction of a new oval with irrigation system, construction of a dual lane, synthetic walking\/running track and a picket fence around the perimeter of the oval and the installation of AFL standard LED training lights.\u201d<\/p>\n
The works were planned under the universal design principle requirements of the Victorian Government\u2019s sport and recreation design guide, and will also link the park\u2019s facilities to the Back Creek Trail.<\/p>\n
\u201cEnvironmentally sustainable design is also reflected through landscaping and urban greening, water sensitive urban design and the use of recycled materials where possible,\u201d Ms Mason said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe expect that this major project, due to its accessibility and proximity to larger community catchments, will be well utilised and become a destination park for many in our community and for visitors to Greater Bendigo as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
The upgrade is expected to be completed by June 2023.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
