INDUSTRY heads from around Bendigo are invited back out into the real, Zoom-free world to attend a one-day seminar promoting safety leadership and best practice risk management and control.<\/p>\n
Hosted by La Trobe University Bendigo and DON KR Castlemaine, the event features the smallgoods manufacture\u2019s people and performance director Kate Nuttall.<\/p>\n
The aim of seminar it to promote greater awareness of workplace safety risks and strategies to assist in eliminating those risks, as well as better understanding of practical approaches to managing emotional stress from workplace incidents, and greater appreciation of safety culture.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is nothing more important than the health and safety of your people,\u201d Ms Nuttall said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTaking safety seriously ultimately aims to prevent work-related injuries and fatalities, as well as improve overall workplace health and safety.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Nuttall said leaders at all levels play an essential role in driving a positive ‘safety’ culture.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome ways this can be achieved are through leading by example to encourage proactive safety behaviours, encouraging open and honest communication about safety issues, seeking staff engagement and input about safety processes, and continuously reviewing and analysing processes for ongoing improvement.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt DON Smallgoods, we have business continuity plans that we put in place to cover a range of critical incidents.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese plans are regularly updated and are critical in helping us keep our people and environment safe, as well as supply customers with high quality products.\u201d<\/p>\n
