THE four resident artists at Valentine\u2019s Antique Gallery have joined forces to share their creative take on the spring season.<\/p>\n
In their first group exhibition, Alicia Thomas,\u00a0Sarah Wallace-Smith,\u00a0Lauren Starr and\u00a0Sylvia Hewitt celebrate Spring and All<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe wanted to do something together because we all enjoy each other\u2019s work, company and support,\u201d Thomas said.<\/p>\n \u201cSpring seemed like an ideal time to have a fresh start, coming out of lockdown and into a period where people are vaccinated and opening up all sorts of opportunities that haven\u2019t been there for the last year.\u201d<\/p>\n She didn\u2019t need to look far for seasonal inspiration for her paintings and drawings, with her contributions to the show highlighting her favourite spring offerings.<\/p>\n \u201cI looked around at home at the things I\u2019ve been enjoying with spring, the colour of the sky and blossoms coming out, baby magpies and mothers feeding them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Queensland-born artist Hewitt used collagraphy, a form of print making, to showcase the natural surrounds of her new home.<\/p>\n \u201cComing down here the trees are just amazing,\u201d she said. \u201cEvery time I\u2019m driving down the street I go \u2018oh look at that!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n For fine art photographer Starr, it was a process of collecting flowers from Libertine Florist, and the gardens of her mother and Hewitt, for her pieces.<\/p>\n Wallace-Smith\u2019s multi-media works use kitchen tiles to explore her perspective of the season, along with plant and bird imagery.<\/p>\n \u201cLots of problems are solved in the kitchen, there\u2019s new beginnings, new starts, family, spring, it all happens there,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n The works will be on show until 25 November and attendees also have the chance to view the artists\u2019 studios, where cafe vouchers have been hidden among their pieces.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s good fun,\u201d Wallace-Smith said. \u201cI think most people are interested to see. They love to see the process and where you\u2019re doing it.
