{"id":79553,"date":"2021-11-18T04:56:37","date_gmt":"2021-11-17T17:56:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=79553"},"modified":"2022-02-27T11:00:14","modified_gmt":"2022-02-27T00:00:14","slug":"sweet-sunday-treat-shows-solidarity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/sweet-sunday-treat-shows-solidarity\/","title":{"rendered":"Sweet Sunday treat shows solidarity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ON Sunday, community members were encouraged to get flipping in the kitchen to show their support for healthcare workers at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Solidarity Pancakes Day was an idea born out of Melbourne lockdowns by Vic Health CEO, Dr Sandro Demaio, and has garnered global online support on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Bendigo Health got behind the initiative for their workers last week, topping pancakes donated by Green\u2019s Baking at the Gobbe Wellness Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Oncology nurse Jenna Sing said it was wonderful to see the community join the effort as she enjoyed maple syrup and raspberry pancakes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a symbolic gesture that we are taking that time out to think of the healthcare workers and the sacrifices they\u2019ve made throughout the last two years,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79555\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79555\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-79555\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/DSC_0375-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79555\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf, Be.Bendigo interim CEO Rob Stephenson and Bendigo Health chair Bob Cameron supported the cause.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAlmost two years of this type of workload has been quite exhausting and I look forward to when the pressure is off a little bit, and we can go back to normal life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had really nervous patients, staff shortages due to exposure sites and people needing to be tested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been quite a stressful time but hopefully we\u2019re on the end of it and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>City of Greater Bendigo mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf supported the cook-up and said the initiative was about supporting all workers involved in the local health service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is the nurses, chemists, cleaners, everybody at Bendigo Health and in the healthcare industry,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve done a tremendous job throughout all of the pandemic.
