AUSTRALIA has triumphed in Dubai to claim the title of T20 World champions.<\/p>\n
After being set 173 to win by the Kiwis after a brilliant 85 from 48 by their skipper Kane Williamson, Australia was in absolute control with the bat chasing the target down with seven balls to spare.<\/p>\n
Mitchell Marsh, 77 (not out) from 50, was the hero with the bat. Often maligned, he put on a masterclass on the biggest stage with David Warner by his side.<\/p>\n
Warner, 53 off 38, was just as brilliant with his setting of the tone for the chase. The pair combined for a 92-run partnership which will go down in Australian cricket folklore.<\/p>\n
Warner was awarded player of the tournament, while Marsh was named player of the match.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don’t really have words, what an amazing six weeks with this group. Love them to death. World champs,\u201d Marsh said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe coaching staff came up to me in the West Indies and said you’re going to bat three for this tournament, and I jumped at it.<\/p>\n
\u201cHave the staff to thank for backing me and getting me up the top there.\u201d<\/p>\n
As Mitchell Starc struggled under the pressure, it was Josh Hazelwood who was the star with the ball, taking 3\/16 off four overs in stunning fashion.<\/p>\n
In-form leg-spinner Adam Zampa was also economical, taking 1\/26 off four overs.<\/p>\n
Australia will look to defend their T20 crown on home soil next year.<\/p>\n
