AFTER an extended period with its doors shuttered, the Bendigo Art Gallery promises to return as a hive of activity once again over the coming months.<\/p>\n
One of the first hands-on opportunities for local creatives will be a workshop with traditional miniature painting proponent Nusra Latif Qureshi, who is also featured in the Gallery\u2019s current contemporary female artist exhibition, SOUL fury<\/em>.<\/p>\n In terms of her own style, elements of which she hopes to pass on during the session, Qureshi said the \u201cmany layers\u201d present in her work refer to a \u201clayering of identity, and to history where the roots of identity lay.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe images may come from historical photographs, botanical prints, scientific illustrations or advertising material,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cCombined with a select use of colour and outline, these images create a space where known histories can be questioned.\u201d<\/p>\n Qureshi said the Bendigo workshop offers an opportunity to individuals \u201cwho wish to explore art techniques without the burden to produce a finished work.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe session provides a chance to learn a simple painting style and the use of basic techniques to achieve exciting results,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
