ESSENDON list boss Adrian Dodoro insists the club was thrilled that Ben Hobbs got through to their first pick in the first round of last weekend\u2019s AFL Draft.<\/p>\n

The Bombers nabbed the inside midfielder at pick 13 even after Port Adelaide traded up from 14 to 12.<\/p>\n

The Power took dashing defender Josh Sinn, leaving the Dons to get their man who they had ranked inside the top 10.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know it\u2019s said quite often but we certainly didn\u2019t think he\u2019d be there at pick 13,\u201d Dodoro said on Sportsday<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the experts had him in the top six or seven, and we certainly did. For him to come through was terrific and he\u2019ll really complement our midfield.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s strong around the contest, he\u2019s an inside bull, he uses the ball really well, he\u2019s got a big motor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe good thing about him is he\u2019s a leader, so adding to the quality of person around the club that \u2018Truck\u2019 really likes us to recruit for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dodoro added that the Bombers were intent on selecting Hobbs, even if Sinn was available at their pick.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe liked him [Sinn], there\u2019s no doubt, but I can categorically tell you we were taking Hobbs,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had Hobbs rated at seven in the draft and I think Sinn a little bit later.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re both fabulous players. I think people like to make stories out of nothing, but we were delighted and rapt with the boy that we got.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greater Western Victoria Rebels and Vic Country on-baller Hobbs will be joined at Tullamarine by Norwood\u2019s Alastair Lord (pick 46) and Garrett McDonagh from Richmond\u2019s VFL side (pick 50).<\/p>\n
