THIS summer will again be filled with free, family friendly fun as the City of Greater Bendigo prepares to launch its Summer in the Parks program.<\/p>\n
Kicking off with the lighting of the Rosalind Park Christmas tree on Friday evening, the program is packed full of live music concerts and movie screenings throughout December, January and February.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a perfect opportunity to enjoy free entertainment in our beautiful parks, support our local hospitality and dine out or picnic safely with family and friends,\u201d said mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf.<\/p>\n
The tree lighting event will officially mark the start of the festive season in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe\u00a0tree will be lit at approximately 8.45pm and\u00a0there will be entertainment for children beforehand starting from 6.30pm onwards,\u00a0including roving Christmas characters, entertainers from Connected Circus, music and Christmas carols with singer Ryan Gay,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The Rotary Club of Bendigo’s Community Christmas Carols will also return on 19 December and Cr Metcalf said the event would be open to everyone.<\/p>\n
“Following recent announcements by the Victorian Government and changes to event restrictions, those attending the carols will not need to be vaccinated, however they will be encouraged to QR code check-in via the Services Victoria app,” she said.<\/p>\n
“In accordance with COVID-safe event guidelines, all performers and events staff will be fully vaccinated.”<\/p>\n
Celebrations will continue when, for the first time, the city\u2019s New Year\u2019s Eve fireworks will go off from the top of the poppet head at the Queen Elizabeth Oval.<\/p>\n
An early display is scheduled for 9.15pm, as well as a main show at midnight.<\/p>\n
