{"id":80706,"date":"2022-01-28T04:55:25","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T17:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=80706"},"modified":"2022-02-27T11:03:56","modified_gmt":"2022-02-27T00:03:56","slug":"local-sports-night-of-nights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/sport\/local-sports-night-of-nights\/","title":{"rendered":"Local sport\u2019s night of nights"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PREPARATIONS are underway for this year\u2019s Bendigo Sports Star of the Year Gala night.<\/p>\n<p>The 57th annual black-tie event will be held at the All Seasons Hotel on 25 February, celebrating the achievements of local sportspeople over the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>Vice-chairman of the Bendigo Sports Star committee Sam Daykin said it will be the \u201cbiggest gala night in history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re awarding monthly recipients from 2020 and 2021, I think we have a total of 16 monthly recipients and around 12 scholarship recipients,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a big night, a great night and I\u2019m very excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A range of special awards will be given, including Bendigo Sports Star of the Year, the Fosterville the Gold Mine Healthiest School Award, the Faith Leech Achievement Award and the Cyril Michelsen and Maxine Crouch Trust Fund Awards.<\/p>\n<p>The winners of the John Forbes Coach\/Manager Award, the Bendigo Health Young Indigenous Award, the Bendigo Bank Community Minded Award will also be announced, as well as the new member of the Bendigo Sports Star Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>Athletes up for the Sports Star of the Year award include G-League basketballer Dyson Daniels, Olympic swimmer Jenna Strauch and AFL Brownlow medallist Ollie Wines.<\/p>\n<p>The gala will also celebrate the achievements of Bendigo\u2019s younger sports stars recognised in the scholarship program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the community is forward to it, we usually have a strong turnout of 300 to 350 people for the night,\u201d Mr Daykin said. \u201cThe sporting community of Bendigo and the surrounding areas really love the night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are available at <strong>bit.ly\/3FRpEyY<\/strong> and cost $95 per person or $900 for a table of 10.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PREPARATIONS are underway for this year\u2019s Bendigo Sports Star of the Year Gala night.
