JUSTIN Langer\u2019s future as Australian men\u2019s head coach remains up in the air.<\/p>\n
After guiding Australia to a maiden T20 World Cup triumph last November followed by a 4-0 Ashes thrashing of England, Langer has been backed by former Australian captains Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh to continue as coach beyond his current contract, which expires in June.<\/p>\n
Ponting believes Cricket Australia should offer Langer a \u201ctwo-to-three-year\u201d contract on the back of recent red-ball and white-ball success, while Waugh thinks it\u2019s time \u201crumours and innuendo\u201d about the former test opener\u2019s future were put to bed.<\/p>\n
With the Ashes done and dusted, Langer expects to sit down with Cricket Australia soon to learn his coaching fate.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople don\u2019t seem to believe this, but the absolute truth is before the World Cup and the Ashes, we all committed to the end of the Ashes to sit down and have some conversations,\u201d Langer told SEN Mornings<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s been four really big years and it\u2019s an all-encompassing job and it\u2019s a tough gig\u2026 that\u2019s just the truth.<\/p>\n \u201cWe all said that we\u2019d sit down after the Ashes. So in the next little bit, I\u2019m sure those conversations will start to be had.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s plenty to be spoken about.\u201d<\/p>\n Langer, who replaced Darren Lehmann following the ball-tampering saga in 2018, is feeling \u201creally content\u201d about Australia\u2019s recent achievements and is remaining calm about his future.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m never edgy [about the future],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cBefore the World Cup and before the Ashes, we\u2019ve never ever been better prepared. So it\u2019s not a coincidence I don\u2019t think that we\u2019ve had the success that we\u2019ve had.<\/p>\n \u201cWhatever happens from now on, we can all be incredibly proud of this little period. We had two missions: To win the World Cup and to win the Ashes.<\/p>\n \u201cTo do that in such a short period is a monumental effort and we\u2019re all really satisfied with that, we\u2019re all really happy about that, we\u2019re all really, really proud of that.<\/p>\n \u201cI sit here at the moment feeling really content with the last two series.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
