{"id":81098,"date":"2022-02-17T04:58:53","date_gmt":"2022-02-16T17:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=81098"},"modified":"2022-02-27T11:03:52","modified_gmt":"2022-02-27T00:03:52","slug":"full-cycle-confirmed-for-the-stage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/full-cycle-confirmed-for-the-stage\/","title":{"rendered":"Full cycle confirmed for the stage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MELBOURNE Opera will bring its new production of Richard Wagner\u2019s <em>Ring Cycle<\/em> in full to Ulumbarra Theatre next year.<\/p>\n<p>After announcing the five-hour <em>Die Walk\u00fcre<\/em> will hit the Bendigo stage at the end of February, MO announced on Monday that the full critically acclaimed performance will follow suit.<\/p>\n<p>City of Greater Bendigo mayor Cr Andrea Metcalf said this is the first time the $5 million production will visit regional Australia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very excited to have been approached by Melbourne Opera to stage not only one of the most ambitious opera productions ever seen in Australia, but also rarely performed internationally because of its complexities and mammoth size in production terms,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWagner\u2019s <em>Ring Cycle<\/em> is an epic $5 million production with a huge cast and crew of hundreds of Australian singers, musicians, creatives and technicians. Such a production has rarely been attempted in Australia, with only five productions spanning more than a century.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBendigo\u2019s <em>Ring Cycle<\/em> will be performed at our magnificent 900-seat Ulumbarra Theatre which was chosen because it is big enough to hold the show\u2019s immense scenery set.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fans of the show are known to travel the world to witness the 15-hour \u201cepic journey\u201d, usually held over four nights and consisting of individual operas <em>Das Rheingold, Die Walk\u00fcre, Siegried <\/em>and <em>G\u00f6tterd\u00e4mmerung<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt Ulumbarra, the audience will experience the <em>Ring Cycle<\/em> like never before as the theatre is so well designed that every seat is the best seat in the house, giving audiences access to a truly unique and intimate performance, immersed in the epic production featuring gods, giants, dragons and a 130-piece orchestra,\u201d Cr Metcalf said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is likely that each <em>Ring Cycle<\/em> will be performed over 10 days, encouraging longer stays which is fantastic news for our hotel accommodation, retail and hospitality sectors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No stranger to blockbuster shows, Ulumbarra Theatre has previously hosted Melbourne Opera productions of <em>Das Rheingold <\/em>and <em>Fidelio<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets are expected to go on sale via Bendigo Venues and Events in the next few weeks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MELBOURNE Opera will bring its new production of Richard Wagner\u2019s Ring Cycle in full to Ulumbarra Theatre next year.
