{"id":81289,"date":"2022-03-03T04:56:58","date_gmt":"2022-03-02T17:56:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=81289"},"modified":"2022-02-28T15:37:31","modified_gmt":"2022-02-28T04:37:31","slug":"uni-is-back-for-academic-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/uni-is-back-for-academic-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Uni is back for academic year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>LA Trobe University students celebrated their return to campus last Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Semester one kicked off on Monday and many on campus said they\u2019re hoping to have consistent face-to-face classes this year.<\/p>\n<p>The university also welcomed 100 international students to its Bendigo facility, a number higher than pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels.<\/p>\n<p>Civil engineering student Pradhen Chopra, who arrived in Australia just two weeks ago, said he is keen to get started at the same university as his older brother.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m feeling excited, I\u2019ve just come here for the first, it\u2019s a cool university I\u2019m having a look,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019ll be a great experience; I\u2019ve heard a lot about this university, the graduate employment rate and all that stuff, it\u2019s a good university.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After completing the last two years of high school via remote learning, first year physiotherapy student Mikayla Tunley said she is excited at the opportunity to make new friends and connect better with her teachers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be on campus, have the opportunity to have face-to-face classes and do some hands-on work, rather than being at home like previous years,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like we\u2019ll be able to engage more with lecturers and classmates.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_81290\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81290\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-81290\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2022\/02\/DSC_0616-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-81290\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Second year dental science student Joey Ong is living in student accommodation.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Returning for her second year is dental science student Joey Ong, who moved up to Bendigo from Melbourne as the campus offers the only undergraduate dental course in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Having never been to regional Victoria before university, she said she now lives on student accommodation and feels at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt felt like a community here in Bendigo, coming from Melbourne we didn\u2019t really know what it would be like,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were told it\u2019s a regional town, a rural place, but it actually feels really homey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone\u2019s really comfortable with each other you really build a sense of community. My friends who study in Melbourne have really huge campuses and big cohorts as well, they don\u2019t really get to make a lot of close friends.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was my first time coming to Bendigo the day I moved, and I really liked it. I was really excited to come back to uni.
