THE call is out for new volunteers to join the Kangaroo Flat Community House.<\/p>\n
The organisation offers everything from meditation, self-defence classes and a seniors program, to tai chi and a community barbecue, and there\u2019s also plans in place to rebuild a community garden.<\/p>\n
Centre manager Tracey Moss said more volunteers helping to run programs could in turn support the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore hands make light work. There are at least half a dozen programs that we can either launch or start to develop just by having those key people,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The community house is looking for volunteers with any spare time to assist with administrative tasks and a food relief program.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know that we can already get between 200 and 400 kilograms of fruit and veggies here every week, but we need some people power to help us to be able to manage that,\u201d Ms Moss said.<\/p>\n
Laurel Parsons started volunteering at the front desk about one month ago to combat isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving been in lockdown for so long, I was finding that I was getting to the stage where I didn\u2019t want to leave the house,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was something to do and hopefully a way to meet other people, which has been lovely.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been good for me and I\u2019m sure there\u2019s a lot of other people out there that it would be good for.\u201d<\/p>\n
