{"id":81849,"date":"2022-03-31T04:57:07","date_gmt":"2022-03-30T17:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=81849"},"modified":"2022-03-31T09:15:13","modified_gmt":"2022-03-30T22:15:13","slug":"program-launched-for-flourishing-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/program-launched-for-flourishing-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Program launched for flourishing festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WHILE the region has come to life with a host of events across autumn, another flagship festival officially launched its program on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The Bendigo Writers\u2019 Festival\u2019s theme this year is \u2018flourish\u2019, which is the perfect concept according to manager at Bendigo Venues and Events, Julie Amos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s writers festival is themed flourish because that appropriately describes what is happening post-COVID in Bendigo,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBendigo is an amazing city and has had this writers\u2019 festival running for 13 years now and we thought it was a really appropriate name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt shows we\u2019re opening up, we\u2019re busy. We\u2019ve got lots of international guests, lots of local writers, academics from around Bendigo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s festival features 70 events with 100 presenters, and 15 online talks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeventy sessions is where we would\u2019ve been [before the COVID-19 pandemic] so I\u2019m really confident we\u2019re delivering a really big festival and we\u2019ll see big numbers of people coming,\u201d Ms Amos said.<\/p>\n<p>The program includes international speakers including former West Indies cricketer Michael Holding, who will appear live from Cayman to talk about his award-winning book <em>Why We Kneel, How We Rise<\/em> about racism in sport.<\/p>\n<p>Bestselling author of <em>Eat Pray Love,<\/em> Elizabeth Gilbert, will also appear via video in conversation with host Claire Flanagan-Smith.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_81854\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81854\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-81854\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2022\/03\/20160908001282596400-original-300x235.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"235\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-81854\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eat, Pray, Love author Elizabeth Gilbert is a big name on a list of big names set for this year\u2019s Festival.
