{"id":81857,"date":"2022-03-30T04:58:57","date_gmt":"2022-03-29T17:58:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=81857"},"modified":"2022-03-29T14:23:40","modified_gmt":"2022-03-29T03:23:40","slug":"farcical-play-premiers-this-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/news\/farcical-play-premiers-this-friday\/","title":{"rendered":"Farcical play premiers this Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TREADING the boards for the first time at the Engine Room stage on Friday night is Synchronicity\u2019s comical and frequently absurd production of the play <em>Leading Ladies.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The play is set inside a 1950s television studio and follows two flailing Shakespearean actors who decide to con a millionaire by posing as heirs Max and Steve, only to discover Max and Steve are actually Maxine and Stephanie.<\/p>\n<p>The farce leads to many awkward moments and hilarious confrontations, made possible by an ensemble cast of eight local actors.<\/p>\n<p>Jacob Amarant and Kody Austin play the lead roles of Leo Clarke and Jack Gable, donning dresses, wigs and brassieres as Maxine and Stephanie.<\/p>\n<p>Austin said he was initially drawn to the idea of the material.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love big, loud comedies and farces, and the 1950s television show was a really interesting idea,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo be able to be such a big character and do lots of physical performances as both Jack and Stephanie is such a wild ride.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_81860\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-81860\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-81860\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2022\/03\/DSC_0259-2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-81860\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The production is a classic farce comedy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Director Ralph Shipard said he hopes to create an immersive experience for the audience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Engine Room is quite a small space, the audience tends to get quite close to people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to try make it a very inclusive atmosphere, we want to make it a full thing where you walk in and it\u2019s like you\u2019re walking into the taping of a 1950s TV show.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll have projection on the screens with pre-recorded scenes in black and white, we\u2019ll have some faux cameras, a stage manager escorting you to your seat, it\u2019s the whole immersive experience when you walk in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Shipard said he is proud of the efforts of the cast and crew to bring the characters and set to life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery single person I couldn\u2019t praise highly enough for what they\u2019ve put in,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone\u2019s got their clearly defined character, they\u2019ve all put in a lot of effort on accents and a great deal of thought into the characters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Leading Ladies<\/em> will run for seven sessions from Friday, 1 April until Saturday, 9 April.
