VOLUNTEERS have been busily preparing for the Y Service Club of Bendigo\u2019s Easter book sale.<\/p>\n
President of the Y Club, Peter Searle, is excited by this year\u2019s festival, as the jam-packed weekend approaches.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people, our regular customers, have commented that they\u2019re really looking forward to getting back to the Easter book sale again,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s become an integral part of the Easter Fair and people really look forward to it, they queue around the block for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
About eight of the Y Club\u2019s 23 members have been meeting twice a week to sort thousands of books into 25 different categories.<\/p>\n
Mr Searle said while the leftover books not sold would normally be recycled, this year the club has a solution in line with its community focus.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery Easter we always have a large number of books left over, so unfortunately a lot of them have to go to recycling, but this year we\u2019re going to send up a tonne of books to the Lismore Library because a lot of their books were destroyed in the flood,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The book sale is the Y Club\u2019s main fundraiser of the year, with a second sale taking place over the AFL grand final long weekend.<\/p>\n
The money raised allows the club to support many community organisations, including YMCA Victoria, Annie North Women\u2019s Refuge, MADCOW Australia, Bendigo Foodshare and more.<\/p>\n
The sale will take place at the YMCA Tom Tweed Stadium from Good Friday through to Easter Monday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
