THE latest works in Victory Christian College\u2019s multi-million-dollar upgrade is underway.<\/p>\n
Stage four of the project includes a new $2.2 million building for science, food tech, art and general purpose classrooms.<\/p>\n
Deputy principal Chris Harvey said the extra spaces were needed for the growing student population which has increased by 10 per cent each year over the last half-decade.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the next few years, we will continue to grow so these general purpose rooms and specialist areas will be much needed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want students to be able to have access to the best facilities possible to give them a taster of what they may do in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
Work on VCC\u2019s six stage masterplan began in 2019, with the current phase rounding out to $3.6 million.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been on a bit of a design journey as we\u2019ve built the stages along the way and we\u2019re really happy with what we\u2019ve come up with in terms of students being able to feel comfortable, safe and really to optimise the learning for them,\u201d Mr Harvey said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know that if they feel comfortable in their surroundings, they\u2019re able to learn a whole lot better and we\u2019re seeing the fruit of that now.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new building is being funded by the State Government and Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan, said the infrastructure would also support teachers and create local construction jobs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a really strong focus on supporting the local building industry to get to work on these jobs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving a pipeline, too, also means that the local building industry knows that there\u2019s future school works that they can come and work on.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new building is expected to be completed by December.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
