BENDIGO Community Health Services is calling for donations to its annual coat drive ahead of what is expected to be another challenging winter at the hands of COVID and the flu.<\/p>\n
Coats collected for the initiative will be distributed throughout Bendigo, Eaglehawk and Kangaroo Flat, and through other agencies.<\/p>\n
BCHS CEO Gerard Jos\u00e9 said the warm coats would make a difference for those doing it tough this cold season.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know the many challenges in our community in relation to secure housing, meaning many are facing the freezing depths of winter without a warm home,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany others are facing extra financial pressures and are unable to heat their homes, or find the money for warm clothes for themselves or their families.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are asking the community to please have a think about what hasn\u2019t been worn in a while, and donate them to our coat drive.\u201d<\/p>\n
The community coat drive will run until 13 May, and in previous years has received more than 2700 donations.<\/p>\n
Each piece of clothing is cleaned by Pristine Dry Cleaners before being distributed, and manager Cassie McLeod said the team was happy to lend a hand.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is our way of helping people in need,\u201d she said. \u201cThere\u2019s a strong sense of community support, knowing warm clothing is essential.<\/p>\n
\u201cEach year we try and rally behind the community in order to beat last year\u2019s donations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Coats can be dropped off to Pristine Dry Cleaners at 141\/157-161 High Street, Bendigo.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
