{"id":82720,"date":"2022-05-12T04:46:59","date_gmt":"2022-05-11T17:46:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/?p=82720"},"modified":"2022-05-11T15:28:46","modified_gmt":"2022-05-11T04:28:46","slug":"dogs-stun-storm-and-snap-streak-at-tannery-lane","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/bendigotimes\/sport\/dogs-stun-storm-and-snap-streak-at-tannery-lane\/","title":{"rendered":"Dogs stun Storm, and snap streak, at Tannery Lane"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GISBORNE remains the only unbeaten team after five rounds in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football League\u2019s senior competition after Saturday\u2019s one-goal win on Strathfieldsaye\u2019s turf.<\/p>\n<p>The Rob Waters-coached Bulldogs were way off target in the final quarter as they added 1.8 against a fast-finishing opponent that scored 4.2.<\/p>\n<p>At the final siren, Gisborne led 11.17 (83) to 12.5 (77).<\/p>\n<p>Storm was up 24-21 at quarter-time, but the Bulldogs dominated most of the second stanza to gain a 16-point break by half-time.<\/p>\n<p>Defences were well on top in the third as Gisborne added 2.4 to 2.2.<\/p>\n<p>In the last it was the Darryl Wilson and Shannon Geary-coached Storm who had plenty of run off half-back and through midfield to put Gisborne\u2019s defence under pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Despite being without captain and gun forward Pat McKenna due to a leg injury, Gisborne showed it has plenty of scoring options.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Merrett kicked a match-high four goals for the Bulldogs as Josh Kemp and Ethan Foreman added two apiece.<\/p>\n<p>It was Shannon Geary and James Schischka who added two majors for the Storm as the classy Lachlan Sharp, a multiple winner of the Ron Best Medal as the league\u2019s leading goalkicker, added just one.<\/p>\n<p>Best afield honours went to Gisborne\u2019s Jack Scanlon as Jaidyn Owen and Jack Reaper were superb in defence.<\/p>\n<p>The play of Merrett, Kemp and Matthew Panuccio was a key factor in the red, white and blue claiming a crucial victory and moving a win clear at top of the ladder from Golden Square and the Storm.<\/p>\n<p>Best for Strathfieldsaye were James Schischka, Lachlan Ratcliffe, Kallen Geary, Mitchell Hallinan, Thomas Bennett and Daniel Clohesy.<\/p>\n<p>Gisborne\u2019s coaching staff would also have been rapt to claim a win in which onballers Brad Bernacki, Scott Walsh and Flynn Lakey were not rated in the team\u2019s top six, but still had an impact.<\/p>\n<p>Both line-ups had changed markedly since Storm beat Gisborne by 43 points in the round 10 clash at Strathfieldsaye last season.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s defeat ended a 14-game winning streak for Storm which began after last season\u2019s one-point loss in Gisborne\u2019s home at Gardiner Reserve.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82722\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82722\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-82722\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2022\/05\/PDW_1482-600x380.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82722\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A pack of Strathfieldsaye and Gisborne players forms under an incoming ball.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GISBORNE remains the only unbeaten team after five rounds in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Football League\u2019s senior competition after Saturday\u2019s one-goal win on Strathfieldsaye\u2019s turf.
